Tanita

Founded in 1923, Tanita Corporation is an ethical health care product manufacturer with international headquarters located in Tokyo, Japan. The company's core objective is to research and bring to market technologies that facilitate health monitoring for professionals and the general public. With almost 50% of its domestic market share, the name Tanita is now a household word to the Japanese and building on this success, the company is expanding its presence internationally.

The Tanita family of companies now spans the globe, and includes offices in the United States, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and China; with major production facilities located in the Far East.

The goal of helping people lead healthier lives through innovative monitoring products means that Tanita not only manufactures quality products, but also invests heavily in educational campaigns. Major efforts have been made in the field of obesity research and public education. Chief among these efforts is the founding of Tanita's own Best Weight Centre in 1990, a multi-million pound research facility located in Tokyo dedicated to researching the adverse effects of obesity on public health.

Following extensive research on the link between excess body fat and a number of serious medical conditions, including heart disease, diabetes and certain cancers, 1992 saw the introduction of the World's First Body Composition Analyser/Scale, creating a completely new product category.

Two years later, in 1994, Tanita introduced the Body Fat Monitor/Scale for home use.


Tanita Medical Advisory Board (TMAB)
 
As part of Tanita's mission to remain in the forefront of medical related technology and health issues, the Tanita Medical Advisory Board (TMAB) was established.

TMAB consists of the senior researchers and obesity specialists from the United States and Great Britain. The purpose of the board is to act as both an internal and external medical advisory council to Tanita Corporation in the following areas:

To recommend and oversee research pertaining to Tanita products. This includes clinical trials, outcome studies and validations. To identify new areas of research appropriate to Tanita products.

To provide medical and scientific data necessary to the improvement of current products and marketing as well as assist with the development and testing of new health monitoring products.

To be available as experts on the subjects of obesity, body composition, BIA and specific Tanita products.

To review science and medicine related marketing and product materials for accuracy prior to production and distribution.

To be active participants in body composition or health symposia produced or sponsored by Tanita Corporation. We believe that the recent appointments of Dr Susan Jebb and Professor Andrew Prentice to TMAB, will further strengthen Tanita's position as a responsible and ethical source for obesity-related information and products.
